- What sets hostage negotiators apart? The skill set. Once mastered, it gives you a unique edge in everything you do. The Listening Institute has repurposed the skills of hostage negotiation to help you become a better listener – because listening is the bedrock of all effective communication. The skills we teach give you access to a person's mindset without their knowledge – unintentional insights. This puts you in a privileged position to influence their actions, the listening advantage. Learn it at an elite level, and the next time you sit in the boardroom, listen for the unintentional insights and combine those insights with persuasive techniques to propose a solution that resonates with your audience at an unprecedented level.
