- Introduce yourself.
- Hello, I'm Ann Bailey. I'm a leadership advisor, facilitator, coach and speaker, but I didn't start there. My career spans over 35 years in the professional world, and all of the decades of opportunities, experiences and learning, the good, the bad and the ugly, has brought me to where I am today. Like many people in their twenties, I had a plan. I was going to become a hospital CEO. I come from a family of clinicians and was keen on working in the healthcare industry to fulfill my personal value of service. Off I went to get my MBA, and during an internship, I worked with a woman whose father ran a consulting firm. New plan: off I went to consulting. That's when I first understood that plans change, and I needed to be open and alert to new opportunities and get comfortable flexing as my world changed. Through the years, I've been in leadership roles at large healthcare corporations where I led teams of amazing people, all in support of improving the lives of patients and healthcare employees. I've had the opportunity to work in England in the National Health Service. I've been a leader of teams and a consultant to drive team performance by building the capabilities of high-performing teams. I went back to school in my late forties to study conflict resolution, and recently in my early sixties, became a Certified Executive Coach. But it's not just about the professional work; I've had plenty of experiences in my personal life that shaped who I am today, including having a premature baby who required six months of hospitalization and four years of in-home nursing. I know what it's like to navigate a complex health and insurance system. In fact, we successfully challenged our insurance company in court to continue our daughter's coverage. Now I'm really interested in taking all that I've learned professionally and personally, and what I'm still learning, and transferring that knowledge and experience to help others navigate challenges and reach their highest potential, through team advisory, coaching and public speaking services, all while staying true to my value of service.
- Tell us what you do.
- Hello, I'm Ann Bailey, the founder and president of The Bailey Leadership Group. I'm a leadership advisor, facilitator, coach and speaker, dedicated to building high-performing teams and high-impact individuals. I work with teams through workshops and coaching to align them around a shared vision and mission, build trust and manage productive conflict. I coach individuals who are stuck in their current roles or are facing challenges in navigating their own success. I also designed and facilitate a small group coaching program for women called Side by Side, We Rise, which focuses on behaviors that women demonstrate that, while well-intentioned, often get in the way of our advancement. I also speak to groups of different sizes on topics related to accelerated individual and group performance, including executive presence and gravitas, managing productive conflict and building and rebuilding trust. I really enjoy interactive presentations and workshops that engage the audience for ideal learning, and that offer practical takeaways for participants that can be applied immediately. I look forward to connecting.
- Tell us about your signature talk.
- Hello, I'm Ann Bailey. I have a few different talks. One of them is called Gravitas: The Elusive Edge for Rising Leaders. What is gravitas? Well, essentially, it's the credibility that makes people listen and trust you. It's not just about what you wear, how you look, what bag you carry. It's a set of behaviors that drive trust in you and your judgment, including speaking with calm authority, holding your ground in heated discussions and genuinely projecting confidence under pressure. Why is gravitas important? You can be the most educated and skilled person, but you won't go far without demonstrating the critical characteristic of gravitas, or executive presence. Everyone needs it. The good news is that it's a behavior, so it can be learned. It's important no matter what seat you sit in at your organization. The goal of this talk is for each participant to walk away with an understanding of their own level of gravitas and one or two actions they can take today to improve their gravitas. We'll do a self-assessment to better understand ourselves and do a deep dive on some of the behaviors that prevent us from true gravitas, particularly when we speak and write, like minimizing or saying too much. We'll also delve into how we respond to conflict, particularly in the grip of strong emotion, and how to regulate that emotion. Very importantly, we'll cover behavior. Change concepts are great, but everyone needs to know how to shift behaviors and make them stick. With that, we'll focus on adopting a learning mindset, which is key to making behavior change and build confidence. Looking forward to working with you.
